Il nous fut révélé au début des années soixante dix par « Bananas », film comique d'un comique américain de plus. Cependant, le génie de Woody Allen allait très vite exploser à travers des oeuvres moins burlesques, de brillantes comédies plus ou moins autobiographiques et traitant avec grand humour de la vie, de l'amour et de la mort. Depuis, chaque année, on attend le « nouveau Woody Allen ». Les Européens ont appris à aimer ce New-yorkais pur jus, si proche de nous dans la dérision de son regard sur le monde d'apparences dans lequel nous vivons, des deux côtés d'un océan qui semble avoir rétréci avec le temps. He was revealed in the early Seventies by « Bananas », a comedy by yet another American comic. The genius of Woody Allen, however, would rapidly explode onscreen with films less burlesque ; they were brilliant comedies, more or less autobiographical, and they treated life, love and death with immense humour.
