This book is the result of a symposium of researchers and specialists in children's and youth literature from European Institutes and research centres organised by The Charles Perrault International Institute. These partners met to reflect on picture books published in the last three years of the twentieth century in fourteen different countries.
The study goes hand in hand with an exhibition which was achieved with the help of the European Union.
Europe, A Dream in Pictures explores pictorial forms, aesthetic tendencies and cultural representations which characterise contemporary production. The reflection on national identities proves to be a preliminary condition to the appearance of a European subject yet to be imagined. The study is part of a larger project of The Charles Perrault International Institute and aims to be an indispensable contribution to the development of quality literature for children and adolescents.
This book is the first title in a collection which will present scholarly research and field studies.
