Through a series of talks presented, during successive sessions of gets-together, by students belonging to different regions of Mauritania, the author strives to shed light on the ethnic and sociocultural diversity of the country. By the same token, he throws into sharp relief social ills, such as frequent divorces, polygamy, early marriage, girls forcefeeding etc., still wide spread in the country. He also pin-points and discusses an the issues that are likely to hinder the economic progress and the sociocultural evolution not only within each one of these regions but in the country as a whole. All these ingredients, as it were, add up to make the substance of this book which may, indeed, be of real interest to whoever wishes to gain an insightful knowledge of the different aspects of life in Mauritania.
