The fame of this small area, of less than 11/2 square miles, has been spread over the entire globe by the exceptional people of the Marais : we will meet cultivated and courageous women who were not intimidated by science or by men, sometimes holding salons that influenced the most prominent personalities of the time, and scientists who transformed the world in spite of revolutions and wars, aided by artists and craftsmen who carried on imperturbably to rebuild after the chaos.
These wise women and builders of the future shaped the heroic and tenacious soul of the district. We invite you to take a walk through its history to meet or learn more about these people who believed in themselves and were never discouraged from continuing to build, whatever the circumstances.
