Rediscovering Berlin : today, building culture means resource-saving conversion culture. Reconsidering buildings and neighbourhoods that are worth preserving, using them better, converting and extending them cleverly, is both a tradition and a trend in Berlin : a trend with a great future, as the 60 exciting projects conceived in Berlin demonstrate. They include smart transformations of cottages, barns and GDR-bungalows into highly contemporary housing, a factory made of shipping-containers, reusable interior fittings for the Impact Hub Berlin in the CRCLR House, and much-discussed neighbourhood projects such as the Holstenfleet in Kiel. In between, renowned authors investigate questions of what to do with multi-storey car parks, operating schools in existing buildings and enabling entire neighbourhoods to do without fossil fuels.
