The 101st Airborne division in Normandy : A rendezvous with destiny !

The guns of the Battle of Normandy have been silent for over 80 years, and yesterday's battlefields are today's museums, tourist and heritage sites. For the men from the 101st Airborne Division, the battle began in an apple orchard, a marsh or a wheat field where, in total silence, they first set foot on Normandy soil, under their parachutes or beside their gliders. These men then fought amidst the Normandy bocage for thirty days before finally accomplishing all their missions.

Time has since passed, and yesterday's heroes are now time-honoured veterans whose wisdom and memory must guide our young generations. I was honoured to meet them in their homes or during veteran reunions, and to see with my own eyes the flame of bravery and the airborne spirit still burning brightly in theirs !
