Résumé

Au sommaire notamment : La formation professionnelle au sein de l'Union européenne : un croisement entre politique communautaire et stratégie de Lisbonne (O. Debarge) : Transatlantic power sharing in Education : outcomes of an interview series of civil servants in the EU and US (W. Teter) ; Care and equality as basic concepts for equal opportunities policy in the EU contries (Z. Humer) ; etc. ©Electre 2024

The European Union is at a crossroads. Its `social dilemma' focuses on the form and direction of economic and social integration and regulation. A dilemma of `sites of governance' concerns the role of the EU in the world. Its `constitutional dilemma' is how to join the resources, traditions and symbolism of states with those of supranational and intergovernmental institutions. These significant issues form the subject of this book. The first part of the book concerns education and social justice, including vocational training, transatlantic competition and cooperation and gender equality and the concept of care. The second part focuses on asylum and immigration, including the diffusion of the Safe Third Country concept and the role of the Commission in developing EU immigration policy. The third part discusses political identity and constitutionalism, in particular the construction of a European political identity, the European Arrest Warrant and constitutional pluralism and the role of civil society in the Convention on the Future of Europe.

This bilingual volume comprises the revised versions of papers first presented at the Fourth International Workshop for Young Scholars (WISH) / Quatrième Rencontre Internationale des Jeunes Chercheurs (RIJC). The fourth WISH/RIJC was held in Aix-en-Provence on 18 and 19 November 2005. It was organised by the European Law Journal, together with Centre d'Études et de Recherches Internationales et Communautaires (CERIC - CNRS-UMR 6201) of the Faculté de Droit et de Science Politique of the Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III, and the College of Europe (Warsaw). WISH/RIJC is an annual workshop bringing together the most promising young scholars in specific fields of European Union law from throughout the world. Its objective is to identify and discuss themes which are likely to be the most significant topics of research in the field of European Union law in the first half of the 21st century. This book is one of the fruits of the fourth WISH/RIJC.
