Résumé

Xie Lei

In front of the canvas, I step forwards, backwards, to the left, to the right... painting keeps me moving. These movements could be seen as a dance, an intimate and very tense dance. The painting and I are the only witnesses to this dance. On the canvas, you can feel the movement, the air that's moved by the body. That's how there is such intimacy.

What is fascinating is that, the longer we stay in your dream world, the less terrifying it gets. A somewhat musical element, almost like dancing, eventually appears. When faced with your series of figures captured in various postures, we might think of Matisse's The Dance. There is a sort of choreography in the fall that has nothing threatening about it. We could be floating in this aquatic world.
