Santiago Calatrava est le seul architecte à avoir été exposé à la fois au Museum of Modern Art et au Metropolitan Museum of Art à New York. Il est également célèbre dans le monde entier comme ingénieur structures, sculpteur et artiste. Du complexe des Sports olympiques d'Athènes en 2004 à la gare de transit du World Trade Center à Manhattan, il a fait montre d'un sens esthétique et de prouesses d'ingénierie remarquables, révélant une grande sensibilité, tant pour l'aspect que pour l'anatomie de ses structures.

Master of form

Santiago Calatrava is the only architect to exhibit at both the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, also renowned around the world as a structural engineer, sculptor, and artist. From the Athens 2004 Olympic sports complex to the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Manhattan, he exhibits a remarkable aesthetic and engineering prowess with a simultaneous sensitivity for both the appearance and the anatomy of a structure.

With influences ranging from Nasa space design to da Vinci's nature studies, Calatrava's creations are at once aerodynamic and organic in their associations. Natural forms and human movements inform a number of his projects, with a particular interest in the meeting point of equilibrium and dynamism.

This updated monograph includes all of Calatrava's original collaborative input, as well as a number of new projects including the Peace Bridge in Calgary, Canada ; the Conference and Exhibition Center in Oviedo, Spain ; and the Mediopadana Station in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
